social butterflies

This is a little card that I am making for my favorite client and her husband. She asked me to do something without any email or telephone number so that she can use her discretion to put whatever is needed for whatever circumstance. Also to send it as a thank you note if needed so it is half folded. She asked for butterflies and wanted some kind of a logo too so  hopefully it is logoesque enough for personal use. I didnt want it to look too much like a business card. She is a real social butterfly so hopefully it works.

blast from the past

During my last trip back to my parents house I found the 1971 picture of me and it reminded me of a more recent photograph of me from this year. I couldn't resist putting them back to back to see how they compare.

In the kindergarten photo, I remember that the photographer gave me my first comb ever which was thrilling since we only had brushes at home. I combed my braids and smiled for the photographer. I didn't know that I did anything wrong until my mother saw the print and asked me what happened to my braids.

Somehow it is reassuring for me to see that even though I have physically aged and even experienced  good times and bad there is a little indiscernable spark of me still safely embedded.

Paris Ballet

I did it folks!   It is officially out. I have designed and illustrated the Gala invitation to Opera Paris Ballet presentation of The Nutcracker for the Friends of the Ballet. It is for a charity event that will raise money for poor kids to go to the Opera throughout the year.

I managed to do a pop-up format featuring the Rat King on the outside leading you in and on the inside is Clara dreaming and holding her beloved Nutcracker. The invitations have been set out and the reaction has been great.

One of the nicest features of this project is that I get to go to the ballet too. If only I had asked for more money to buy something appropriate to wear!

Ironically enough the Rat's creepy attitude (and whiskers) were inspired by my 17-year-old cat, Mouchette.

Clara pivots towards the right and left when you open and close the 3 fold card.
I am told by my sons that the clouds are almost as good as Dragon Ball-Z clouds.

april sketch

this is just some sketchy ideas for a future april in paris cartoon....

April Friend:   I need to call EDF to fix my email.
April:      But Bev, that's the Electric company. You need to contact your internet provider instead.
April Friend:    No way! Their customer service sucks and plus no one speaks English.
