April in Paris

working on this today. i hope that the color can help the spacing problems. I particularly like the K which is based on a mother and a daughter who are often seen at my children’s school. 

Although still in the sketch phase this is a true departure from my regular look. 

This is a little diddy that I worked up for an article about the probably toxicity of cellphones on children’s health. It was really tempting to put the red arcs over the child’s face because it would have been a bit more stronger visually but decided it doesn’t go with the ‘cutesy’ tone of my work. (It felt almost evil to put the rays on the little character.)  I love all the language that has to interpreted and reconstructed visually when building new illustrations.
