You may remember seeing something like this before only the balloon was floating on a white background. I have been working on my portfolio like mad trying to make a series and to fill in the backgrounds with interiors or in this case an exterior.. This is the first time I have done an aerial view of a town. I will be coloring everything tomorrow and packing on Thursday. Tomorrow is really d-day.
I wonder if anything good will happen to me at Bologna. My goal is to find an art director that responds positively to my style and then hone my work to his or her likings for the next couple of months. I just want to do some good work but it would be so much worthwhile if I had a director to guide me.

Building it up for Bologna

We are busy putting up a new website to compliment my blog (and vice versa). The website will be an overview of my work with links to pictures of my work, studio and a bio. Reading Nabokov's Speak, Memory helped me to define that biography although the format is rather linear. The fact that I do try to go back to themes again and again makes it slightly Nabokovian which is a wink to my last series.  For today I spruced up an older drawing that will be featured in my print portfolio. I am getting ready to leave for Italy at the end of the week where I will be presenting my work. How do you say GOOD LUCK in Italian?

Just a side note... I got a hub so that both me and husband can access my printer, scanner, extra harddrive and  ipod from any room in the house. I just love technology, don't you?

Should I say something? (version 1)

This is the first version that  I did for the article about kids and tolerance. I think the final one is so much better. (The one with the yellow faces.) I am not even going to bother to color this one. Maybe I can use the martians for something else.(Notice their substance abuse.) I think the teenagers name is Roland-- Ravishing Roland.

HARDY HAR HAR

This was for a tight overnight deadline for a really serious article about kids and virtual reality. I am trying to force myself to do interiors and it is not second nature as you can see here. (Although I do love to draw cables.) I have to admit it is not my best but am happy that I could quickly work up a gag on short notice--- I can't help but say HARDY HAR HAR whenever I re-read it.

Should I say something?

I tried to cut the details down to the bear minimum to get my point across. I like the graphic sparse look but I am not sure about the yellow. I have to admit the Simpsons were kind of on my brain when I choose that color. Kind of a new look for me and one that would be interesting to pursue.
This was for an interesting essay by a woman who questions the line between tolerance and a lazy, yellow-bellied laissez-faire attitude. (My words not hers.) She explains that whether we like it or not our teenagers live in a culture with drugs, sex and alcohol. Even if your son or daughter doesn't actively participate in any of those things he or she is  still a part of that world by the mere act of having to reject that choice to begin with.  So 'when do you speak out and when do you keep to yourself?', is a question that needs to be addressed in every family.
