sketch for upcoming party

This is a sketch for a school’s 40th birthday party. I tried to make it light and cheery to appeal both to kids and parents. I had a lot of fun doing it.
This is the first time I have ever drawn architecture from a real place and it was a huge challenge. I am very happy with myself. The tree is in the style of Sempe as I couldn’t figure out how to do it without overpowering the rest.
It was shown in a recent meeting and seems to have been well received. I can’t tell you how nervous I was because there were more than 10 people looking at my drawing and they were very competant and well-spoken mothers from the school. I kind of felt like a fool standing there with my picture. I felt really very childish. It is a tricky position to be an artist.
Now I just have to add color which will also be tricky but the hardest part of all– the lines– are done.

yes! kind of … i mean i used the photo to get the basic lines but had to improvise because as you see it is view from above…. wait until you see the colored version. it is becoming quiet something. maybe the best drawing i ever have done!
