Which quote is better? (Or is there another one out there?)

There are only two tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want and the other is getting it.–B.Franklin

??? or is this B.F. quote better with this illustration:

Hide not your talents. They for use were made.

Chinese Characters

This is for a client who needed a character for a kids’ software program to learn Chinese.

April in Paris-Milano-NYC “The Hushed Battle of the Google-Proof”

This is my debut drawing for my April in Paris - Milano - NYC series. It was sparked by my fascination of two friends who boast of being unGoogle-able: 0 references to their names on Google. If I wanted to be wicked I would write their names right here & now to put an end to their tiresome bragging. (Note: Carla Bruni-Sarkozy seated to April’s right.)

Hot air

Here is the color version. I cropped it and think it looks floatier. Now I am going work on the tree illustration. Then I revise my portfolio. Tomorrow packing and Friday 4:20 am taxi to airport. gulp. Friday lunch in Florence.

Paris Ballet

I did it folks!   It is officially out. I have designed and illustrated the Gala invitation to Opera Paris Ballet presentation of The Nutcracker for the Friends of the Ballet. It is for a charity event that will raise money for poor kids to go to the Opera throughout the year.

I managed to do a pop-up format featuring the Rat King on the outside leading you in and on the inside is Clara dreaming and holding her beloved Nutcracker. The invitations have been set out and the reaction has been great.

One of the nicest features of this project is that I get to go to the ballet too. If only I had asked for more money to buy something appropriate to wear!

Ironically enough the Rat’s creepy attitude (and whiskers) were inspired by my 17-year-old cat, Mouchette.

Clara pivots towards the right and left when you open and close the 3 fold card.
I am told by my sons that the clouds are almost as good as Dragon Ball-Z clouds.
