School party poster

I tried to convey a sense of joy and coziness to announce the school party for the big poster. Below was one of the many teasers that was sent by email.

rambunctious

rambunctious: Illustration Friday theme of the week!

I am visiting an office space offered to me through a caring friend. If it all goes right I will begin working in it as soon as the holidays end. I will see if working in a professional setting with colleagues and a coffee machine helps me to stay focused and keep distractions at bay.

In the mean time here is that new year’s card almost finished below.. I think the colors will be deep and jewel toned but  how will I  handle the black line if the sky is dark? With a light line?  Will I just keep it light and airy? Also where will I stick in a little 2009 lettering? …. I have scraped the whole volvelle idea. A shame though but I won’t be able to assemble it on time so it will be a traditional folded card. I will color at my new office tomorrow. Hurray!

New Year sketch

In France it is customary to send New Year’s wishes. Often the images include Christmas themes but not necessarily.

The rule is that you can send out your wish cards all the way until February 1st. (If you forget, don’t worry! You just write ‘HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!’ and you are off the hook until the beginning of March.)

Here is a card that I am working on for one of my private clients. She always gives me carte-blanche so I am really able to exercise my creativity. I am thinking about coloring their pyjamas with textile prints overlayed. I also wondering if I need to put the Dad next to the Mom rather than the daughter to avoid looking creepy. Any thoughts out there?

Lastly, this will be a volvelle meaning it will be two disks superimposed over each other. You spin it around to reveal happiness messages. (It is similar to a slide rule. )

Benevolent forces

Where are you people coming from? Someone please speak up!

Up until Sunday I could count on my neice and my mother visiting my site at least once a month. My statistics for visitors has suddenly shot through the roof. I am feeling such pressure to entertain you. Who are you?

Who is sending you here? Is this a sign that there is indeed life out there in cyberius? Please BENEVOLENT FORCES answer me!

Little China Girl Sketches

This is so much nicer than the other one. I wonder how I can make this into a full blown series. Whenever I try to go into the drawing more I tend to loose the spontenaity that makes this kind of drawing interesting.

Chinese Characters

This is for a client who needed a character for a kids’ software program to learn Chinese.

The dog with eyelashes

This is a little different than what I usually do. I was pinched for time. It is about all the different newspapers available to students at the school. Not sure how I will like it in a couple of days. I am not sure why I gave the dog eyelashes but it was irresistable.
